The Family Violence Prevention Program at The Pas Friendship Centre is a culturally grounded initiative designed to support Indigenous youth and men through education, healing, and community connection. The program focuses on strengthening identity, promoting healthy masculinity, and preventing family and gender-based violence through land-based and cultural learning.
Program Rationale
This program provides a series of workshops and land-based activities that teach young men and boys the meaning of masculinity and its relationship to gender-based and partner violence. Participants are guided to reflect, learn, and grow in a safe, respectful, and culturally supportive environment.

- Strengthen emotional awareness, respect, and accountability
- Support community harmony and individual well-being
Programs & Services Offered
🥁 Drum-Making
Participants will learn how to tie and make their own hand drums, gaining cultural knowledge and practical skills while strengthening personal identity.
🪶 Rattle-Making
Participants will sew and create their own traditional rattles for personal and cultural use.
🥁 Drum Group
Participants will learn how to drum together as a group on a large drum, emphasizing teamwork, unity, and cultural connection.
🔥 Sweat Lodge Teachings
Participants have the opportunity to take part in a community sweat lodge, guided by an Elder, to support healing, reflection, and spiritual wellness.
👥 Men’s Group
A supportive space where participants can gather to learn and talk about:
- Family violence
- Healthy relationships
- Masculinity and accountability
Food is provided during men’s group sessions.
Understanding Masculinity Workshops
Participants will explore:
- What masculinity means to them
- The difference between healthy and toxic masculinity
- Identifying positive male role models
- Emotional intelligence
- Recognizing feelings and understanding why they occur
- Learning when, where, and with whom it is safe to be vulnerable
